I was born with a passion for horses. No telling where I got it from but as a small child my love for horses just grew. From reading every book on horses to every video I could get my hands on I developed that passion. The day I finally found where my passion was leading, was the day I was down on my luck and needed a tank of gas. I gathered $2 in change and decided to place a bet. The bet I made changed everything. The horse won, I filled my tank and decided that's where I wanted to work. Shortly thereafter I became employed by a trainer, Gerald Bennett, as a hotwalker on the backside of that very track and soon thereafter began grooming and riding, even that very same horse that sparked my interest in the racing industry. 

There I met my husband and with his knowledge and passion, we ignited a flame. A few years went by and as we soaked up more knowledge we decided to put it to use. One day I went to buy a new truck and found myself dragging my husband to the OBS yearling sale, just to take a peek. Well, that peek bought us our first horse. A yearling filly who would change everything, and that she did. Salsa Bullet was a horse that no one really wanted or had faith in, except us. And we poured our heart and souls into her. One day I had the opportunity to sell her and I let her go. She immediately went on to knock the shoes off of some very nice fillies. She made herself a black type stakes winner of $80k+ in only three races. Salsa showed me that no matter how small you are, if you have a big heart and try your hardest, you can be anything you want to be. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be more.

Within the following years I continued to learn (something we do every day of our lives) and one day Gerald Bennett gave me a call. He asked if I was interested in taking his yearlings. My husband pushed me and I finally decided to take the reins. As of today I have been breaking and training his yearlings/two year olds for four years as well as training my own, they have done well, making their ways into the winner's circle periodically and bringing smiles to many faces. During that time I finally decided I needed to start my own business, New World Thoroughbreds Inc and make a name for myself. 

On June 30, 2016 I put my first starter to the test under my name. A big and handsome six year old first time starter, Indigo Heart; who was previously living his life as a farm horse cutting cattle, made his way to the saddling paddock. He ran a decent coming fifth place and got some good experience from the race. Although he didn't hit the board, I am still proud of how far he had come. Now on July 1, 2016, my big day had already arrived. Sending out a three year old filly by A.P Warrior, Morena Mia was to be my first winner. I had been training Morena for ten months. After a short lay off I decided to give her a race to get her back in the game. With a new rider from Argentina who had never rode in the states, Morena made her way in to the winner's circle off of a maiden special weight win, running lasix free.

Now we all know that we win some and lose some, but this is what racing and training is all about. Taking a horse from the beginning and helping him reach his full potential. Even if his full potential isn't always taking him to the winner's circle. As long as he is happy, healthy and able to hit that board, I know that I am doing my job.
