Owner Bio

I was hooked as a teenager with horse racing when I worked for trainer Jack Van Berg in 1987 as a hot-walker then groom. He won the Kentucky Derby that year with Alysheba and I experienced horse racing at a high level early on. Fast forward 25+ years, my wife and I have built a solid foundation in horse racing that includes a Farm in Versailles, KY which boards our Broodmares and serves as the lay up location for our race horses in need of rest and relaxation. We also enjoy spending time on the farm with our large family. We race all over the country but are based primarily in California where I was born and raised. I believe that one specific track or location does not offer every option we need to operate a successful racing stable so we send our horses where they best fit. I feel strongly that the owners in this business need to unite and have one voice. The bottom line is that we have the most at stake in this business. Without the owners, nothing in this industry exists, period,. But I find that we leave our decisions to those who do not always have our best interests at heart but push their agendas ahead of the owners. The main problem is that we have way too many groups and organizations competing for our donations and we have created a forest instead of one solid tree. I can be followed on Twitter at @marcferrell.
