Owner Bio

Paul Lustig Dunkel, a native of New York City, is a classical musician who currently works at the New York City Ballet. He has conducted major orchestras in the United states and performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the world. He likes to think of himself as a Grade 1 performer and doesn't care what other people say about him, especially the music critics.

He attended the High School of Music and Art, Queens College and Columbia University Graduate Faculties and Columbia University teachers College. He has taught at the New England Conservatory, The Manhattan School of Music, the Eastman School of Music, Vassar College and the University of Connecticut.

For twenty-five years he was the Music Director of the Westchester Philharmonic. He was also the Resident Conductor of the American Composers Orchestra.

He has been passionate about horse racing since 1969—he enjoyed the challenge of betting on the nags—and now has the time and patience to own  parts of a few horses. His first venture, with Drawing Away Stables,  was throughly enjoyable (and educational) but he felt that he'd rather have some input—not that he is an expert, far, far from it—in the types of claims being made and the subsequent levels at which the horses would run. He'd rather pay the training and associated costs with owning a horse and reaping a higher percentage of the rewards.

He joined Zilla RAcing Stables at the beginning of 2014 when the stable claimed River Boss. He loves ZRS's communicative approach. Linda Rice talks to even the "smallest" partner and Tom Morley, who was recently added to ZRS's traiers roster, is totally open. With both these trainers you feel you are inside the game.
