Owner Bio

I was raised in the Thoroughbred Industry.  My father was a practicing racetrack veterinary when I was very young and eventually built a very succesful racing and breeding operation.  His passion for the industry and the horses became mine.

I started walking hots on the racetrack for Lefty Nickerson at a very early age and have worked for Sidney Waters, John Hertler & Nick Zito.  I spent summer months working for Junior Serna on the farm in Ocala who taught me some invaluable lessons. I am a graduate of Auburn University and while I tried to work in a traditional industry the pull of Thoroughbred Industry was just too strong.

I moved to Kentucky soon after graduation and started pinhooking horses with friends, scrapping together all of the small change we could.  Eventually I took a position at Wintergreen Stallion Station.  It was there with the help of the Greely family that my understanding of the daily actiiviites of the industry were really put to the test. After nearly nine years at Wintergreen I moved into equine insurance with Muirfield Insurance and Mike Levy.  While it turns out the desk life was not for me, I was able to add another tool to my arsenal and to this day maintain my insurance license.

In 2010 I went to work for Mike McMahon who owned McMahon Bloodstock.  Our parents had done business together and we had been friends for nearly 20 years.  In 2011 we became partners and expanded his business into McMahon and Hill Bloodstock, LLC.  In 2010 we had started a public racing stable, Bourbon Lane Stable, that was enjoying some early success and have grown that into one of the leading public partnerships by money earned.  In 2013 Bourbon Lane is campaingning one of the leading older horses in the country, Bourbon Courage who at three won the Super Derby and was Grade I placed who now has earnings over $750,000.
